Hi Reader!
Happy May!
I'm so excited for May to be here. I'm attending PENCON this month! If you don't know, PENCON is the only annual conference for Christian editors. Since it's my first time attending, I'm not sure what to expect. Have you been to any conferences before?
April was another busy month. And hot! I can remember getting snow in April a few years ago, and this year was the complete opposite. I hope your April was calm and cool! 😎
💡 This Month's Writing Tip
6 Techniques to Master POV
Point of view (POV) is the lens, or narrative voice, through which your readers experience your story. It describes the perspective from which your story is told.
There are three main types of point of view in fiction writing: first, second, and third person.
Once you've decided on your POV, give these techniques a try to boost your writing:
1. Character Consistency
It’s important to maintain consistency in the chosen point of view to avoid confusion. If you start with first-person narration, stick to it throughout the story.
2. Reader Engagement
Consider the emotional impact on readers. First-person narration can create a strong connection, while third-person limited allows for a broader engagement.
3. Experiment with Multiple Points of View
Explore the option of using multiple points of view to provide a well-rounded perspective. This can add depth to the story and reveal different angles.
4. Show, Don’t Tell
Use the chosen point of view to show events through the characters’ experiences rather than telling the reader what is happening. This adds a layer of engagement.
5. Balancing Act
Create a balance between a character’s thoughts and actions. Too much internal monologue may slow down the tempo.
6. Use Dialogue Effectively
Dialogue is a powerful tool in fiction writing, but it should only be used to reveal character traits, relationships, and conflicts within the chosen point of view.

✍️ This Month's Writing Prompt
A late-spring thunderstorm uncovers a buried box in the backyard of an old mission house—inside are torn journal pages, a bloodstained cross pendant, and a warning dated May 12. As the new caretaker of the property, you're not sure whether to go to the police or follow the clues yourself... especially after someone leaves you an anonymous note that simply says, “You’re next.”
